Can you have bread on lowcarb / keto? The short answer is no--bread is off-limits on a keto or low carb diet because it is crammed with carbohydrates. So if you are looking for alternatives to bread that won't derail your diet, you are in for a treat. You’ll find 15 not-eggy and delicious bread recipes plus one bonus pancake recipe that can satisfy your carb craving every single time. These options provide satisfying textures while keeping your carb intake in check. Once you are familiar with these bread alternatives, you might not notice the lack of regular bread in your diet.
- Keto Sandwich Loaf
Bread is probably by far the food many people miss the most when switching to a keto way of eating, but there are great alternatives. You can try using finely ground blanched almond to make this sandwich loaf. (Check out this one that I baked with ground pumpkin seeds, chia and flaxseeds.) It seriously looks and tastes like a real thing, and still keeps you in ketosis. You can order psyllium powder (not the whole psyllium) at amazon. Try not to over mix the dough, or the bread will become gummy.
- Low Carb Butternut Bread
Storebought low carb breads are either incredibly expensive or they simply don't taste good. This homemade version of low carb bread is super moist and flavourful thanks to the use of grated butternut squash, Parmigiano-Reggiano and marjoram, sugar free and gluten-free. Butternut squash, like potato, makes your bread twice as moist. But potatoes in low carb bread ain't a good idea. Sure, the squash also has a few carbohydrates, but much less than those tubers.
- 2-ingredient Pork Rind Keto Bread
Pork rinds are one of the most keto friendly snacks you can find and the ideal ingredient to use for keto bread since they contain naturally ZERO carbs. In this dairy-free, gluten-free 2-ingredient bread recipe, you basically just need ground pork rinds and egg whites (I used duck egg whites). Spices and herbs are completely optional.
- 4-Ingredient Keto Bread with Cashew Butter and Chocolate Chips
Gluten-Free, grain-free, dairy-free, sugar-free and keto-friendly, this quick bread uses just 4 ingredients and has the perfect crumb, flavour and moisture. It is very easy to make and will be a hit with your family! You don't have to use cashew butter, any other natural nut or seed butter (tahini or almond butter) will work just super. Regular chocolate chips are perfect for this recipe too if you are not on a low-carb or keto diet.
- Keto Cauliflower Garlic Bread
If you are on the low carb diet and love garlic bread, then you MUST try this healthier keto cauliflower garlic bread alternative that I have found on Delish. It is naturally gluten free, full of flavours with fresh herbs and garlic and easy to make too. However, you can still taste the cauliflower here, so next time I would cut it back to half of what original recipe called for.
- Dairy-Free Keto Bread with Herbes de Provence
A soft, tender, absolutely delicious keto bread with a killer crumb. Smear with butter or chocolate spread, and you will think you are eating the real thing!
- Egg, Dairy and Gluten-Free Keto Tortillas
These keto tortillas are made with almond flour and have a soft and pliable texture thanks to the whole psyllium husks. You can easily double the recipe and freeze them to have on hand anytime you need a healthy wrap or Turkish pizza. Layer them in between parchment paper, so you can pull them out one at a time, if needed. They are egg, dairy, gluten-free too. The recipe creates 4 large tortillas, but you can make 6 medium or 8 small ones. Use a tortilla press to shape them if you have one, otherwise, make sure to roll the dough between two pieces of parchment paper.
- Low Carb Tahini Bread with Hemp Flour
This low-carb, dairy-free, gluten-free and fibre-packed hemp tahini loaf is very satiating, nutrient dense and great topped with avocado, hummus, or seasonal fruit for a wholesome breakfast. The bread is better stored in a container in the fridge for up to 5 days and it freezes well too.
- Seedy Keto Burger Buns
These keto burger buns are nutrient-dense and delicious thanks to the almond flour, seeds, eggs and ghee. If you’re enjoying a low-carb dinner with some juicy burger patties, then these keto buns with tender crumb and crisp crust are perfect. Enjoy them fresh, warm straight out of the oven with a smear of butter. You won't be disappointed. They keep fresh for 3-5 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container and freeze really well.
- Psyllium Pepita Sandwich Bread - Low Carb, Gluten Free, Grain Free
A low carb bread that looks and tastes like the real sandwich bread! You will not believe this is gluten/dairy/grain free bread and it has a crispy crust with a soft, tender crumb. The miracle in this low carb bread recipe lies in the use of psyllium powder, and there's no substitute for it. Spread some homemade onion marmalade over and enjoy! Store the rest in your fridge or freezer.
- Low Carb Bread with Cottage Cheese and Hemp Seeds
Healthier bread with less flour (esp. modern wheat) and more protein can now also be found on the supermarket shelves and bakeries. But nothing beats homemade bread, which is best enjoyed warm from the oven. This low-carb bread with cottage cheese is not only full of healthy nutrients, but is also incredibly tasty. The special thing about this bread is that it is not only low in carbohydrates, but also very high in protein thanks to cottage cheese. But hemp seeds are also a true nutritional wonder with healthy fats, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and even have an impressive 31 grams of protein per 100 grams. They also add an intense nutty flavour to the bread.
- Quick Low Carb Onion Bread
Nothing tastes or smells better than fresh warm bread straight from the oven! This rustic onion bread with bacon is not only delicious, but also low carb and naturally gluten free! It also makes a great party snack with a tasty dip or spread.
- Low-Carb Bread Rolls with Quark and Wheat Germ
Soft, chewy and perfect for sandwiches - a low carb bread rolls recipe that tastes just like the real thing and perfect for those following a low carb lifestyle! They are great to enjoy with soup, stews, and salads, either toasted or simply as is! Quark (German fresh cheese with a smooth and soft texture) is said to be a cross between yogurt and cottage cheese. If you can't find Quark, a few of suitable substitutes for this recipe would be cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, or labneh (a thickened Greek yoghurt).
- Seedy Low Carb Bread with Goat Cheese and Thyme
This nutrient-dense low-carb bread is chock-full of seeds (pumpkin, chia, golden flax, and buckwheat), fiber and B vitamins rich wheat germ that are good for our hearts and our moods. However, people who are allergic to gluten, should avoid wheat germ, as it contains gluten. Use rice bran or oat bran instead if you need to go gluten-free.
This bread is absolutely perfect with softened butter and shaved truffle, goat cheese and raspberries, or liver parfait, black pepper and fresh herbs. It is grain-free, nut-free, sugar-free and super crispy when toasted.
- Seedy Bread Rolls with Broccoli Sprouts
Delicious bread rolls, packed with flavour, healthy seeds and cancer-fighting broccoli sprouts. They are great served as a satisfying breakfast or a scrumptious lunch sandwich with avocado and radish.
- Keto Avocado Pancakes (A Bonus)
Simple and speedy to prepare, these fluffy, naturally gluten-free pancakes don't need any flour. Instead, the almonds and avocado add a good combination of flavours. The result is a tender, savoury pancake, perfect for serving up for a weekend breakfast in bed. You can add a sunny side-up egg or/and a couple of rashers of streaky bacon. Or simply drizzle the pancakes with some monkfruit sweetened syrup for a keto-friendly meal. Packed with protein and healthy fat, this is a great way to kick start your day.

What I cornucopia of bread delights! Just like socks one can never have enough bread recipes. I hope you do not live on keto, deary, that ain't and shouldn't be for life, just a month or two. Keto people might be thin, but their inner organs after a while look like organs of very old people.
Hello Angie,
What a great selection of breads. It is good to have a choice.
Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.
Oh, so Savory! Thank you so much. Just what I needed to see!
Awesome list. I have to book mark it! Fantastic to see all of these!
...they all look fabulous!
WHERE did you get that information? Keto is so misunderstood. I am a firm keto and carnivore follower.
These all look so tasty, and just like "real" bread!
Angie, fats and proteins along with carbohydrates are the three macronutrients in our diet and their main function is to provide energy to the body, so we should not eliminate them completely from our diet. Always consult the doctor if we think of going on a diet eliminating this nutrient.
fats and proteins are essential nutrients, carb. isn't.
Yummy
Thank you, they all look good and tasty.
