What’s more comforting than a freshly baked loaf of moist and dense banana bread fresh out of the oven? Nothing. Ok, maybe banana bread slathered with salted butter or Nutella? Here are 20 plus banana recipes to use up those over ripe bananas, from healthiest versions of refined sugar free, grain-free, gluten-free to rich treats with chocolate and Roquefort. Enjoy!

  1. 5-Banana Banana Bread

This banana bread is moist and delicious with loads of banana flavour! Don’t overmix the ingredients or the bread won't be soft and tender, and make sure the bananas are very ripe. If your bananas aren’t very ripe, you can place them on a foil covered baking sheet in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 150C/300F until the skins turn black. It releases the sugar and makes them perfect for baking. If you don't enjoy a walnut-studded quick bread, just leave it out or use chocolate or fruit instead.

  2. Gluten Free Brown Rice Banana Bread

This deliciously moist, sugar-free, fat-free, gluten-free, protein-loaded banana bread is perfect for afternoon tea, picnics and packed lunches. Soft ripe bananas are best for the recipe. The batter can be baked in the individual muffin cups too.

  3. High Protein Banana Rye Bread with Applesauce and Peanuts

A very moist and delicious banana bread prepared with wholegrain rye flour, grapeseed flour and spiced with cinnamon. The add-in of roasted peanuts is optional. By replacing oil/butter with applesauce and whole eggs with egg white and vanilla whey protein, you can enjoy this old time favourite with less fat, and extra portion of protein.

  5. Sugar Free Vegan Emmer Banana Bread

This refined sugar-free banana bread is very simple, quick, yet delicious, nutritious, and makes a wonderful breakfast or snack for the family. While most banana bread recipes contain sugar, dairy and eggs, this vegan variation uses none of them, but is still moist and delicious. Feel free to substitute wholewheat flour for emmer flour and almond milk for soya milk.

  6. Einkorn Protein Banana Bread

Made with bananas (both fresh and dehydrated), whey isolate, and egg whites, this king of quick bread is packed with the protein and deliciousness of whole grain flour milled fresh from einkorn wheat berries. You can also bake this bread with other whole grain flour, for example, kamut, emmer or spelt.

  7. Vegan Freekeh Peanut Butter Banana Bread

Crunchy peanut butter, almond milk and overripe bananas give this quick freekeh bread extra texture, flavour, and sweetness. A small amount of chopped roasted peanuts offers delightfully surprising crunch and richness. It's easy to prepare and makes a delicious breakfast treat or snack.

  9. Chocolate Zucchini Banana Streusel Cake

This extra moist and delicious zucchini banana bread (or cake) with a crunch oat topping is a combination of two all-time favorites. The deep dark colour and rich flavour come from the use of Dutch-processed cocoa powder and chopped milk chocolate.

  10. Wholegrain Spelt Persimmon Banana Bread

Sweet, juicy ripe persimmons can be sliced and added to salads, or halved and baked as the desserts, or pureed and used in this lovely quick bread gently spiced with nutmeg and refined with Cognac, chia seeds, and nuts. The persimmon puree adds a lot of sweetness and moisture to the baked goods.

  11. Raisin Oatbran Banana Einkorn Loaf

Found this recipe on Ricardo Cuisine, but I tweaked it a bit using what I have on hand and making it even healthier with ground whole-grain einkorn, oat bran, banana, coconut oil and liquid stevia. This makes a good snack, breakfast, or even dessert with a chocolate glaze or lemon icing.

  14. Refined Sugar Free Spelt Banana Loaf with Streusel

Use the natural sweetness of very ripe bananas to sweeten this delicious banana bread. It's perfect for those who are avoiding refined sugar. The thick streusel topping, lightly sweetened with coconut sugar, is an integral part of the banana bread, and provides a flavourful crunchy texture, so don't skip it.

  15. Grape Seed Flour Banana Bread

Grape seed flour is obtained from winery by-products (skins, seeds and stems) generated during wine-making. In addition to antioxidants, grape seed flour is a good source of magnesium, calcium, iron, healthy fats, protein and fibre. There are several different types of grape seed flour each with a slightly different flavour and colour depending on the grape varietal they were derived from, i.e. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot etc. It is gluten-free and very versatile in the kitchen: as an ingredient in baked goods of all kinds, like bread, pizza or cakes, but also great in yogurt or cereal, or smoothies.

  16. Spiced Olive Oil Banana Bread with Hazelnuts

A very easy quick bread to make, healthy and increidly moist thanks to the oilve oil and Greek yoghurt. I flavoured the bread with cardamom, cinnamon and ginger powder, but you can also use your favourite spices, like nutmeg or allspice. Chopped hazelnuts were added for extra crunch, feel free to use other nuts or chocolate. If you want to use honey or maple syrup instead of raw sugar, then reduce the olive oil to 80 ml as honey and maple syrup add a lot of moisture to the batter. This recipe is very versatile and forgiving, so you can easily adapt it to suit your own taste.

  17. Roquefort Walnut Banana Cake

Pair Roquefort with banana in a cake? Yes, the combination works surprisingly well and tastes so good. The blue cheese adds just right amount of depth and robust flavor to the banana bread which is moist, soft and so delicious. Once cooled, the cake is then topped with a simple thin glaze and walnuts for a perfect dessert your family will love.

  18. 100% Rye Banana Bread

Spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, and aromatic cardamom and sweetened with coconut sugar and honey, this deep-dark quick rye bread with a super moist and tender texture and lots of banana flavour is a hearty and healthy take on a regular banana bread recipe. It's filled with 100% nutritious, earthy rye flour and is free from refined sugar. With a combination of over-ripe banans, aromatic warming spices, good quality honey and earthy rye flour, this bread guarantees great taste experiences. Be sure to use really ripe bananas - the more dark brown spots on the skin, the better.

  19. Beernana Bread with Oats and Figs

Beernana bread is a banana bread loaf made with beer. Beer adds a unique twist to this banana bread recipe. I used a local pale beer, but any beer would work. You may substitute raisins or dates for the figs if you wish. It's egg free, sugar free and dairy free.

  20. Spiced Chai Banana Bread

Infused with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg, this spiced chai banana bread is moist and flavourful. The warming spices work really well together and are a good contrast with the sweetness of the banana. The white chocolate topping with extra banana chips and ginger makes it even more indulgent and irresistible, though entirely optional.

  21. Easy M&M Banana Bread

This is such a delicious and easy recipe that is great for any occasion. It's moist, flavourful, perfectly dense, filled with leftover white chocolate eggs, dried fruit and topped with lots of M&Ms. One of the keys to getting a natural, strong banana flavour and a tender texture is to use over ripe bananas. I used erythritol, a sugar alcohol which has a very similar taste to sugar, to sweeten the bread, feel free to use regular white sugar instead. Store any leftover banana bread slices in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  22. Boiled Banana Cake

This boiled banana cake is easy to make, tastes delicious and has a soft and tender texture. It stays fresh, moist for several days if you store it well in an air-tight container. You can make this banana cake plain, or use it as a basic recipe. Add spices, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chunks too. If you don't have spelt, just use regular wheat, plain or whole or a mixture of two. If you fancy, you can always whip up some cream cheese frosting to top the cake or simply dust with some icing sugar.

  23. Whole Spelt Banana Bread with Honey and Applesauce

Homemade banana bread is one of life’s simple pleasures. It's sweet, tender and delicious. However, classic banana bread is usually loaded with refined sugar and calorie dense. This quick bread is made with freshly milled wholegrain spelt flour, homemade applesauce and naturally sweetened with very ripe bananas and honey, and it tastes as flavourful and supermoist as a traditional one and no-one will guess it’s better for you.

They all look lovely, bananas are my fave fruit and fave thing to bake with too, who can resist them? I just substitute white flour with rice flour and it works well in most recipes. Would like to see you make a banana Swiss Roll Cake :) My most famous cake that I ever invented Dezmond Torte is also with bananas, tons of them actually.
