Homemade banana bread is one of life’s simple pleasures. It's sweet, tender and delicious. However, classic banana bread is usually loaded with refined sugar and calorie dense. This quick bread is made with freshly milled wholegrain spelt flour, homemade applesauce and naturally sweetened with very ripe bananas and honey, and it tastes as flavourful and supermoist as a traditional one and no-one will guess it’s better for you.

- Preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with baking paper or grease with oil.
- Whisk together the whole spelt flour, baking soda, cinnamom, nutmeg, vanilla powder, and sea salt in a mixing bowl.
- Mash the bananas in another bowl, then add in applesauce, eggs, honey, and milk. Mix until well combined.
- Add the flour mixture into the banana mixture and mix with a spatula or spoon until everything is well combined. Now fold in the hazelnuts.
- Spread the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake in the middle of hot oven for 55-60 minutes until a wood skewer inserted in the center comes out clean with only a few small moist crumbs.
- Remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

...Angie, this is an interesting take on banana bread which is a favorite of mine.
Very comforting and fragrant I bet, bananas and honey are my fave ingredients. We do not have apfel sauce here but I imagine I would love it as well. It easily replaces eggs in cakes and muffins like these, so that is great in my book.
It certainly is a gorgeous color, and I love that you added hazelnuts!
I have never cooked with spelt bread but will put it on our shopping list to try this. Looks lovely Angie, thank you :)
The banana bread looks fabulous.
Hello Angie,
Your banana bread looks yummy, thanks for sharing the recipe.
Take care, have a great weekend.
I would want the end of that loaf. The hazelnuts are nice.✨
Wow, this banana bread looks so beautiful and tempting, particularly because of its amazing colour and crust!
Wow, another winner! The spelt flour must bring a level of nuttiness that works well with banana. I bet it would be fantastic toasted with luscious butter spread on it.
I do have some spelt flour! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com

Oh my, I know I could finish off that whole loaf!
Spelt banana bread is so good
Excelente ANGIE! Me has apartado otra idea para el pan de plátano. Pues lo hago con frecuencia. Pero tu me enseñas a agregar algunos otros ingredientes que lo harán más sabroso sin duda.
Muchas gracias!
Un abrazo llegue a ti.

Looks good and I bet it tastes good and moist.
I know I need this recipe. Wow, it looks yummy!
What a wonderful banana bread!
The banana bread looks fabulous with hazelnuts.
The applesauce and ripe bananas naturally sweeten the bread, so I think we won’t miss the refined sugar at all. Nice
