Today I have another delicious snack idea and a quick recipe using storebought puff pastry. These minced lamb puff pastry rolls with dates are really tasty, hearty finger food that are sure to win you over with their unique flavour. The fact that they are quite easy to make is just another bonus for all snack lovers. These savoury pastry rolls definitely need a creamy sauce to go with them. As I used lamb, and it’s autumn, plum ketchup is the obvious choice. However, a simple garlic yoghurt dip or Greek tzatziki would also work very well.

  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 400 g Minced lamb
  • 1 Onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 Garlic clove, peeled and minced
  • 50 g Dates, stoned and finely chopped
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 Puff pastry (ca. 25 x 42 cm)
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • Sugar free plum ketchup, to serve
  1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan. Add the onion, ginger and sauté for 3-5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, mix together and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover and simmer on a low heat for 15-20 minutes until soft, then purée and leave to cool slightly.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet. Add in ground lamb, break up the meat and stirfry for 4-5 minutes until cooked through. Remove from pan and place in a bowl. Add onion, garlic and dates to the same pan, sauté for 3 minutes, season with salt, pepper and cumin powder, add to meat and mix everything together. Leave to cool.
  3. Preheat the oven to 220C/430F. Line a large baking tray with baking paper. Set aside.
  4. Roll out a sheet of pastry dough, cut it in half lengthwise, cut each strip into 3 equal pieces and and brush the edges with a little egg. Place the filling lengthwise in the middle of the dough, fold in the sides and roll up from the long side. Repeat with the remining pastry dough.
  5. Place the dough rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking tray. Brush with the egg and sprinkle with cumin seeds.
  6. Bake for about 18-20 minutes in the centre of hot oven until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly on a wire rack, and serve with plum ketchup.

Es una receta sencilla de las que me gustan y puedo comer sin muchas especias. Ideal como aperitivo o entrante.
