As a real foodie, I’m always looking for new recipes and new inspiration and I’m sure you guys are too. I also really love cooking just by myself, since no-one can get in my way when I’m at my private Kingdom (read: kitchen). But.. of course, I get my new recipes and inspiration from fellow foodies and besides that, I also really love to exchange food experiences and recipes with others. This is why I really got excited when I bumped into the new peer-to-peer marketplace Withlocals.com.
They connect food lovers/travelers from all over the world with local foodies from Southeast Asia. So, if you love traveling and like to taste the real local food, you should try a Withlocals Eat experience. You can easily book a home-dinner with a local from one of the country’s Withlocals has launched in (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Nepal).
Imagine.. you’re traveling to Singapore and you really love to try the real Singaporean food and maybe, also get some insights in those recipes. You can go on a home-dinner with a local, who will tell you all the ins and outs about his or her knowledge of Singaporean recipes. Of course, in exchange for some of your secrets.
To the foodies who live in one of the Withlocals countries: you guys can host home-dinners yourself! This way, you can show off your cooking skills and share your love for cooking with fellow foodies and .. earn some extra money by doing so! Besides an Eat experience, you can also offer a Tour or an Activity.
Got excited? Just easily register here, describe your signature dish and everything else the travelers can expect from your home-dinner, and you’re good to go! Enjoy exchanging recipes and talk ‘foodie-talk’ with your new friend!
I couldn’t help myself from nosing around in all those great home-dinners. When I would visit Malaysia in the near future, I would consider those two possibilities: the healthy diner in Petaling Jaya or the cooking class in Kuala Lumpur.
What would you choose? Please let me know!
Ohh angie que linda experiencia de conocer otros cocineros de verdad y buenos y compartir sus secretos de cocina,mi preferido son todos pero en especial Nasi Kuning, abrazos

ReplyDeleteI tried your tasty radish salad with the avocado & buttermilk dressing & it was fantastic, Angie! xxx
Angie,
ReplyDeleteFound fantastic the idea of meeting other foodie pals around, and I loved the photos you share with us ! :)
Cheers,
Angie this is a wonderful idea. It's always nice to eat in someone's home for a true authentic meal rather than going to a restaurant. They should start this in the states.
ReplyDeleteWithlocals does sound pretty awesome - I did a post on them too - love your take on it about connecting foodies with food lovers! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea, hope it spreads across the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! This is definitely something I need to look into the next time we travel :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed viewing the amazing foods, and fun photo with other foodies...but seriously?...I doubt that this wonderful concept would take off here, in S. Florida...maybe somewhere else, in the U.S. People are much too busy to invite other people to their home...they would rather take them out do dinner! As for foodies getting together; that again would take place in a public place! The cooking class in Singapore, or Malaysia sound totally amazing to me...if I could actually be able to travel there! Thanks for sharing, my dear friend, Angie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to combine travel with pleasure -- share interests and develop new relationships. Blogging is great fun but it can also be lonely, this is the perfect way to open ourselves to new ideas and connections. Great idea for a post Angie.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea Angie! It would be a great experience!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an awesome program! Love this idea :)
ReplyDeleteThis is fascinating Angie. I adore traveling but never seem to get enough vacation! LOVE, love, love this idea, the photos, the connection - it is wonderful! I hope if you ever come to the US you'll let me cook for you!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! My husband and I traveled through SE Asia for 1.5 years and loved to get to know the different cuisines. But our experiences were mostly limited to the local food we could find at markets or restaurants. It was always a very special treat when locals invited us to dine with them. You get to learn more about the dishes and even how they are prepared.
ReplyDeleteAngie, this has been one of the best posts that I've read by you, since I learned more about you and feel that I know you much better as a person, on top of being a fabulous cook, photographer, and food blogger. I have been so fortunate to have spent a lot of time, and several times each in Thailand. I would give anything to be able to watch and learn how to prepare Thai food authentically. Southeastern Asia has some of the most fresh and flavorful food on earth! I will look into this group opportunity to see what is offered in my area. Thank you again for this information and for sharing photos of your life!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day Angie!
always love every meet up with fellow food enthusiast!!!
ReplyDeletegood luck Angie!!!
awwwww this post totally made my heart melt
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! Love this!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous way to get up close and personal with a new clture. I can't think of a better way to explore it than with a good local meal. Thanks for sharing this information.
ReplyDeleteVelva
