A decadently rich and irresistibly creamy avocado chocolate mousse on a oat-nut-date base that is not only delicious, also very healthy. The secret ingredient for the mousse is the heart-healthy avocado which has a creamy nutty flavour that works well with chocolate. If you have a milk allergy, substitute milk chocolate with dark one.

CrustFilling
  • 3 tbsp Orange juice
  • 50 g Oat flakes
  • 80 g Dried dates
  • 50 g Almonds
  • 2 tsp Cocoa powder
  • 2 Ripe avocados, pitted and peeled
  • 100 g Milk chocolate, cut into smaller pieces
  • 1-2 tbsp Coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp Lime juice
  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ses salt
  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of orange juice with oats. Quarter the dried dates. Pulse dates and almonds in a food processor until they turn into crumbs. Add in 1 tablespoon of orange juice. Mix the almond-date-mixture with oats and cocoa powder. Press into three 12-cm tartlet moulds and put in the fridge.
  2. Place the chopped chocolate in a small bowl. Place over a small saucepan of barely simmering water. Stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth, about 3 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Using a food processor, blend the melted milk chocolate, melted coconut oil, avocados, lime juice, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt until smooth and creamy, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Divide the mousse into tartlet cases and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Grate some milk chocolate over and arrange some avocado slices or fresh berries atop.

  15. One of our customers back at the design firm is making the very first allergen free chocolate (in North America, at least) and they are going to be launching baking chocolate too! How exciting for those with extreme allergies or intolerance's! I've noticed that avocado is often used as the cream in allergen free baking, particularly with chocolate (it covers up the rather unique flavour the avocado has). Of course, this recipe with nuts in the crust probably couldn't be called allergen free but it is lovely non-the-less. I'm sure it tastes and feels as decadent as it looks.

  115. My family still can't grasp the concept of sweet avocado. I guess they're used to guacamole type avocado dish, where it needs to be sour/savory, but not sweet. But I grew up in Indonesia, and sweet avocado is always the way to go (I don't know anybody who doesn't like avocado smoothie growing up).
I love the idea of incorporating it into tart filing, it sounds heavenly!
