Making your own blackberry infused vodka is quick, easy, and a great way to savour the flavors of a pile of foraged wild blackberries for summer fun! This recipe comes together with just a few ingredients and the spices are completely optional. I used 100 grams of sugar for the infusion, if you prefer it sweeter, use up to 250 grams.

  • 500 g Ripe blackberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 Cinnamon stick, optional
  • 1 Bay leaf, optional
  • 1 Organic lemon peel, optional
  • 100 g Golden caster sugar
  • 700 ml – 1l Vodka
  1. Place blackberries in a sterilised 1.5-2-litre preserving jar or two 1-litre jars. Add in cinnamon stick, bay leaf, lemon peel and sugar. Pour over the vodka, seal the jar and swirl around to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Store in a cool, dark place to infuse for 4-6 weeks. Swirl the jar every day for the first week and then occasionally until none of the sugar is visible at the bottom of the jar.
  3. Strain the vodka through a fine mesh sieve into a sterilised bottle. Enjoy your delicious blackberry vodka chilled, with tonic water or sparkling wine. Store in the fridge to keep chill and consume within 2 months.

  7. Um ... yes, please! I love all the other stuff you put in there in addition to the blackberries. So, is this something you drink straight up on ice? Or do you mix it with something?

When we lived in Maine, we had huge blackberry bushes at the back of our property. We made both blackberry vodka and blackberry brandy. I miss them both so much! Maybe I should just buy some blackberries and make your recipe now. David (C&L)
