Scotch eggs, a classic British pub food, are soft or hard-boiled eggs encased in sausage meat, breaded and fried or baked. (https://angiesrecipes.blogspot.com/2021/03/baharat-lamb-scotch-eggs.html) This meat-free version of Scotch egg recipe makes a creative Middle Eastern spin on this classic snack (or appetizer) and we are speeding it up by using an organic ready made falafel mix.
Making your own falafel is not diffcult, it just takes time. If you are interested in making your own, here are a few of falafel recipes that I shared on my blog before.
- 8 Medium eggs, at room temperature and boiled to your liking
- 400 g Organic falafel mix
- 350 ml Cold water
- Olive oil
|
- Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil over high heat. Gently lower the eggs into the saucepan and cook for 6 minutes for soft boiled, or until cooked to your liking. Drain and transfer to a bowl of cold water. Set aside for 2 minutes or when cool enough to handle, peel the eggs and set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 190C/375F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper or brush with olive oil.
- In a large bowl, add in falafel mix and water. Mix together and set aside for 15 minutes or up to 3 days, covered tightly, in the fridge.
- Divide the mixture into 8 portions. Place one egg in the middle of each portion of falafel mixture, forming it into a ball around each egg. Place it in the prepared baking tray. Repeat with the remaining portions.
- Brush each scotch egg with olive oil and bake in the upper rack of the hot oven for 18 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Serve with your favourite salad, tahini dressing, mayonnaise or ketchup.

La versión vegetariana me ha gustado mucho, es más ligera, aunque no por ello menos saciante. Me gusta como te han quedado.

ReplyDeleteI love falafel, it looks gorgeous I would like to try them so much!
ReplyDeleteYou may invite me to dinner with this menu! I have seen those ready made falafel mixes in DM but they are crazy expensive, sadly as is everything else from their healthy food offer. It also pisses me off that they keep their veggie vursts in the shelf not in the fridge. Even when it is vacuum packed, I ain't eating it from the shelf!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious, another great recipe. Take care, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThis way to make scotch eggs is so original!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I used to make conventional Scotch eggs, but we no longer eat red meat, so this would be a great substitute - and very enjoyable too.
ReplyDeleteI have to try this, it looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteMe gusta mucho está receta, tengo que probarlos.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and these eggs muts be so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe ideal is not to overcook the eggs so that when tasting them is their yolk "juicy".
ReplyDeleteI must say, this Middle Eastern twist on the classic Scotch egg sounds absolutely delicious! Using falafel mix as a substitute for the sausage meat is a brilliant idea. It not only adds a unique flavor profile but also makes it a meat-free option, which is great for those who prefer vegetarian or plant-based choices. Nice one Angie
